Workforce Planning

  1. Wednesday 12 February 2020: Multi-disciplinary teams (MDT)
Outcomes:

  • Understand how MDTs can be used as an effective tool to facilitate collaboration between professionals and improve care outcomes
  • Summarise the critical success factors for effective MDTs and the benefits of, for example, clear team roles, competent leadership, clinical responsibility and accountability
  • Explore the advantages of collaborative teamwork, including continuity of care, the ability to take a comprehensive view of the patient, the availability of a range of skills, and mutual professional support
  1. Wednesday 19 February 2020: Working with physician associates
Outcomes:

  • Identify the benefits of the role of the physician associates in the GP led MDT
  • Plan to ensure optimum functioning of the team and effective patient outcomes through the best use of the skills mix within the team
  • Organise systems and protocols for communication and interaction between team members based on the needs of individual roles
  1. Wednesday 26 February 2020: Working with physiotherapists in primary care
Outcomes:

  • Understand the benefits of the first contact physiotherapist role in the GP led MDT
  • Plan to ensure optimum functioning between GP practice teams and FCPs based either onsite or within another local community service to deliver optimum patient outcomes
  • Organise systems and protocols for communication and interaction between team members based on the needs of individual roles
  1. Wednesday 4 March 2020: Social Prescribers and clinical pharmacists in the PCN
Outcomes:

  • Identify the benefits of roles of social prescribers and clinical pharmacists in the GP led MDT
  • Set out the organisational development path for the roles after three, six, nine and 12 months
  • Plan to ensure optimum functioning of the team and effective patient outcomes through the best use of the skills mix within the team
  • Organise systems and protocols for communication and interaction between team members based on the needs of individual roles

  • Recognise that teams vary in their approach to culture and change and identify what you can do to help support this
  • Evaluate approaches and tactics employed successfully by others and consider what you can incorporate into your working practice

Outcomes:

  • Define emotional intelligence in the context of your work
  • Critique the role of emotional intelligence in your relationships and daily interactions; and
